How do you replace the key battery for a Honda?

I’m giving my son a Civic, and I want everything to be up to date for him! I know how to do most of the upkeep, but I don’t know how to change the remote battery. What’s the best way to replace the key battery for a Honda?

Follow these steps to replace the key battery for a
Honda
:
  • Start by checking your owner’s manual or the back of your key fob for the type of battery you should buy.
  • Once you have your battery, push and slide the metal key release switch and pull out the metal key.
  • Place the key against the seam between each half of the fob and gently pry each side apart.
  • Remove the old battery from the key fob, taking note of its position.
  • Insert your new battery into the fob in the same position as the old one.
  • Snap each half of the key fob together and replace the key.
  • Test out the fob to make sure it’s working!
