How do you replace the hood release cable on your Ford Explorer?

I had to pop my hood to refill my windshield wiper fluid, but I didn’t need to pull the release lever to open it. I checked around and I think the cable might be broken! What’s the easiest way to replace the hood release cable on my Ford Explorer?

Hood release cables
might sound like serious hardware, but they’re actually easy to fix! So try not to worry. You can follow these steps to replace the hood release cable on your Ford Explorer:
  • Step 1: Open the hood and secure it in an upright position.
  • Step 2: Remove the release latch by unscrewing the bolts holding it in place.
  • Step 3: Disconnect the release cable from the back of the latch assembly.
  • Step 4: Remove the retaining clips from along the engine block.
  • Step 5: Take out the release lever from the fuse box by removing the bolts with a socket wrench.
  • Step 6: Pull out the old cable in the direction of the back of the car.
  • Step 7: Install the new cable by sliding it through the fuse panel and connecting it to the latch assembly.
  • Step 8: Reinstall the latch assembly with the new cable.
