How do you replace the car key battery for a Toyota Camry?

My car key stopped working recently. I’m hoping the battery is the problem. How do you install a new battery in a Toyota Camry key fob?

Replacing a fob can cost a couple hundred dollars, so we’re crossing our fingers a new battery does it for you! Fortunately, there’s a high chance that’s all you’ll need.
You can replace the car key battery for a
Toyota Camry
by purchasing a new CR2032 battery and grabbing a flathead screwdriver or another pry tool. Here’s how:
  • First, push on the side of the key fob to release the metal key. Set the key aside in a safe place.
  • Using your pry tool, gently pull the halves of the key fob apart.
  • You should see the old battery inside the key fob. Note the positions of the positive and negative ends of the battery, as your new battery will need to be installed in the same position.
  • Remove your old battery, then carefully place your new battery into the key fob. Try not to touch the terminals as you do this—it can damage your battery life.
  • Snap the two halves back together and slide your metal key back into place.
  • Now, you can test your key fob to make sure it’s functioning properly!
