Your EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve is an essential part of your engine block that helps your car recirculate and reduce carbon emissions. In some states, the EGR is a required component of your car—so making sure it’s in good shape is an important piece of

.- Remove the negative battery cable from your battery terminal.
- Locate the EGR valve—it should be connected to your car’s intake.
- You’ll likely find a cluster of hoses in the area. Make sure you understand which hose is which before you remove the EGR valve. Label them if necessary.
- In the connected pipe, you may notice a buildup of gunk and carbon. Clean the pipe before replacing the valve, or you may continue experiencing the same issues.
- Insert your new EGR valve and reconnect all your hoses.
- Turn on your car and drive around the block a few times to make sure everything is working alright.
