How do you replace a car headliner?

What’s the easiest way to replace a car headliner? Mine got really badly stained when I hauled some old bike parts for my son last week.

I’m sorry to hear that
your interior got stained
! But try not to worry. You can follow these steps to replace your car’s stained headliner:
  • First, you’ll need to remove the old headliner. Pry off the trim holding it in place, and remove any seat belt covers, lights, speakers, visors, or hangers keeping it in place.
  • Next, carefully slide it out of your car.
  • Go back into the car and scrape off any remaining foam on the board with a hard-bristled brush.
  • Spread the replacement fabric over the board.
  • Fold back half the fabric and apply contact cement or a spray adhesive to the board. * Quickly press your new fabric firmly into the board.
  • Repeat this process with the other half of your board.
  • Once the adhesive dries, cut holes in the headliner for lights, seatbelts, clothes hangers, and visors—leaving about half an inch of extra fabric around each hole to tuck in.
  • Reattach any accessories that you removed.
Congratulations! You just successfully replaced your car headliner.
