How do you replace a brake light switch in a Honda Accord?

My brake lights aren’t turning on as they should be, and a police officer pulled me over for it a few days ago. But I’d rather not spend the money on professional repairs if I can avoid it. What’s the easiest way to replace a brake light switch in a Honda Accord?

As far as mechanical jobs go, replacing a brake light switch in a Honda Accord is just about as easy as it gets! Follow these steps to replace your broken brake light:
  • Start by removing the trim piece on the bottom of your dashboard. It should be left of your steering wheel.
  • Unplug the wire attached to the panel.
  • This should allow you to unclip the bottom panel by pushing the release clips that were previously hidden by the upper panel.
  • Once you’ve removed the bottom cover, you should see a white plug connected to a rubber stopper that looks like the tip of a crayon.
  • Take hold of the white plug (that’s your brake light switch) and gently turn it to the right before pulling it out of the hole.
  • Unplug it from the wiring and replace it with your brand new brake light switch.
  • Reassemble your brake light switch and panels in the reverse order of how you disassembled them.
Hopefully, these steps will help you change your brake light switch! If you don’t feel comfortable doing all that yourself, you can always
call a mechanic
. Changing out a brake light switch should usually cost around $30 to $50, not counting the cost of the new part—which you’ll need to buy anyways.
