How do you renew your driver’s license in North Carolina?

How do you renew a North Carolina driver’s license? If I remember correctly, mine should be expiring soon, but I’m not sure when exactly or what to do.

Go ahead and put your concerns on the back burner. The state will send you a reminder card 60 days before it’s time to renew your driver’s license in
North Carolina
. Once you receive your card, you can follow the instructions to complete your renewal online using the myNCDMV website or renew in person at an NCDMV driver’s license office.
You can only complete the process online for every other renewal. If you renewed your license online last time, you’ll have to go in person to renew your license this time. You also may have to go in person if you meet one of the following criteria:
  • You have a suspended license or unpaid debt with the NCDMV
  • Your license has any restriction besides Corrective Lenses or 24
  • You have a CDL, a Class A or B license, any type of learner permit, or a limited provisional license
  • You carry a U.S. document for legal presence
If you have to renew in person, you can make an appointment online. Make sure to bring your two documents for proof of identity and your Social Security card for a smooth in-person appointment.
