How do you renew your driver’s license in Iowa?

I’m in deep trouble: I was supposed to renew my license but I forgot. Now it’s expired and I need to get it renewed ASAP—if I even still can. What is the process to renew an Iowa driver’s license?

Don’t worry—the state gives you a 60-day buffer zone while your license is still valid after the expiration date! To renew your driver’s license in
Iowa
you can visit an issuance site in person or complete an online renewal on the IowaDOT’s website.
You can only complete the process online for every other renewal and only so long as you meet certain eligibility requirements. If you renewed your license online last time, you’ll have to make an appointment to go in person this time.
Lastly, if your license has been expired for over a year you’ll have to pass a written exam and road test to successfully renew your license. The state allows you to renew your license within 180 days before its expiration, so be sure to take advantage of this time to avoid falling behind!
