How do you renew a driver's license in Florida?
My Florida driver’s license will expire in three weeks, but I’m out of state for the next two months. How can I renew my driver’s license?

Having a valid driver’s license is essential to avoid unnecessary fines. There are two options to renew your driver’s license in
Florida
: eitherrenew online through the Florida DMV website or visit a local DMV branch and renew in person. To renew online, here’s what you need to do:
- Head to the MyDMV Portal on the FLHSMV website to see if you’re eligible to renew online
- Have your Social Security number verified (if it’s unable to be verified, you’ll have to follow up with the Social Security Administration)
- Follow the instructions on the online portal
You will receive your credentials by mail within 2-3 weeks from the transaction date. There is a $2.00 processing fee for online renewals.
To renew in person at a DMV office, here’s what you need to do:
- Gather the required documents (one original document with full name, social security number, proof of residential address)
- Find your local Florida DMV
- Turn in your current license
- Pass the vision test
- Provide the required documents
- Pay the renewal fee
