How do you remove the glove box in a Toyota Camry?

I’ve been slowly repairing a 2001 Toyota Camry to be road-ready, but there are some electrical components I can only access by removing the glove box. I used to be an electrician, so the electrical work is simple for me, but taking out the glove compartment—not so much. What’s the easiest way to remove the glove box in my Camry?

Performing electrical work in a vehicle can be challenging, so I’m relieved to hear you used to be an electrician! Fortunately, removing the glove box in a
Toyota Camry
is easy and should only take a few minutes.
To remove the glove box in your Toyota Camry, you should:
  1. Put the ignition in the lock/off position and open the hood.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait at least two minutes. This step ensures the passenger airbag won’t deploy when removing the glove box.
  3. Remove the mounting bolts on the exterior base of the glove box. There should be two bolts on each lower corner.
  4. Open the glove box and remove the six remaining mounting bolts on the interior that secure the glove box to the dashboard.
  5. Remove the glove box carefully, making sure not to disconnect the wiring harness forcibly.
  6. Disconnect the wiring harness attached to the rear of the glove box by prying open each clip using a flathead screwdriver.
Finally, don’t forget to purchase
