How do you remove a steering wheel?

I’m having issues with my turn signals, and I think there’s a short somewhere. I want to try and fix it myself to save money, and I’m guessing the wires are somewhere in the steering wheel. How do I remove the steering wheel to access the wires?

If you want to try and fix your turn signals yourself, you’ll definitely need to remove the steering wheel to access the right wires. Fortunately, getting the steering wheel off should be really simple.
Here’s how to get the steering wheel off in most vehicles:
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable
  • Remove the mounting screws behind the steering wheel to remove the airbag
  • Remove the mounting bolt in the center of the steering wheel
  • Firmly grasp the wheel and pull outward
Once you get it off, you should have access to the wires you need. If the job becomes overwhelming at any point, reach out to a mechanic for assistance.
