What an awesome time to visit the Golden State! Great weather and hardly any tourists. You definitely don’t want a broken plug to put a damper on your cross-country adventure.
Spark plugs are small parts found under your vehicle that ignite the fuel before it enters the combustion chambers. To remove, have a pair of pliers, screwdriver, flashlight, ratchet, hand drill, PB blaster, Anti-Seize, and an easy-out extractor on hand. Penetrating oil is also useful.
Here’s how to remove a broken car electrical plug:
Use a flashlight to** locate** the faulty plug. Look for a threaded portion that’s hollowed out in a cylinder head gasket.
Pour penetrating oil over the spark plug and let sit for a couple of minutes. For easy driving out the square end, **pull out **the spiral cut with a bi-hex 12-point socket.
Use a hammer to tap the extractor into the hole. When expanding the spark plug shell, _don’t _use the large spiral cut tractor.
Next, on the top side of each spark plug, you’ll find two nuts. Loosen them and gently pull the plugs out with an old rag to prevent an electric shock. Be careful, as plugs can break and fall inside the engine. Yikes.
Make sure to not damage the threads during your spark plug removal process.
