How do you release the freon from a car air conditioner?

How can I release the freon from my car? I’m getting more hands-on with my car repairs and my next project is to remove the freon from my car’s air conditioner. This isn’t something I’ve attempted before so I could use some guidance.

Getting more hands-on with your
car’s maintenance
is always a great idea and an excellent hobby! Generally, if you want to release the freon from your car’s air conditioner, you will need an AC recovery machine.
Before you get started, you should know that these AC recovery units usually cost between $400 and $2,000, depending on the type and age of the machine. Typically, it will only cost you between $50 and $200 to get your car’s AC system serviced. That said, if you still choose to go the DIY route, follow these instructions:
  1. Acquire safety goggles and gloves. Work in a well-ventilated area without any children or pets present.
  2. Locate your car’s low-pressure service port and connect the hoses of the recovery machine.
  3. Run the recovery machine for about 7 to 15 minutes. After removing the refrigerant, the recovery machine will automatically shut off and restart again.
  4. Disconnect the recovery machine.
If you’re set on buying that recovery machine, check out the
Jerry
app to help offset the cost.
Once you download Jerry, just answer a handful of questions that will take you roughly 45 seconds to complete and you’ll immediately get car insurance quotes for coverage similar to your current plan. Jerry customers save an average of $879 a year.
