How do you register a car in Oregon?

I just bought my first car ever! It’s brand new. I’m excited to show it off, but my parents said I can’t drive it until it’s registered. What do I need to do to register my car in Oregon?

Congratulations on the new car! Registering a car can be intimidating, but it’s pretty easy when you stay organized! Follow these instructions to register your car in Oregon:
  • Complete a Title Application form.
  • Bring the Bill of Sale from your purchase.
  • Collect the Odometer Disclosure from your seller (if applicable).
  • Pay any necessary registration, title, and plate fees. Fees will vary depending on your vehicle and its MPG, but expect to pay between $122.00-$306.00 for a new car.
  • Get a car insurance policy and provide proof of insurance.
  • Turn in documents and payment to the DMV in person or by mail.
If you’ve completed those steps, you’re all set!
