How do you register a car in North Carolina?

I just moved to North Carolina and need to update all my legal documents and car registration, but I have no idea where to start. How do you register a car in North Carolina?

Registering a car in North Carolina is a relatively easy process and can be completed at the DMV or by mail. To complete the process, you will need the following:
  • A North Carolina driver’s license
  • A notarized vehicle title
  • A Title Application Form
  • A Declaration of Eligible risk
  • Payment for the license plate fee, registration fee, and any additional taxes
You can find all the necessary forms on the DMV’s website and, even if you are going in person, it is recommended you fill out the forms beforehand to save time and make the process easier.
Now may also be a good time to shop around for car insurance. Your coverages may need to be updated to meet North Carolina’s
minimum car insurance required
and the price will likely change. To easily compare quotes, you should download
