How do you regain confidence after a car accident?
I got into a bad accident and it really shook me up. I’m healing, but now I’m nervous every time I get behind the wheel. What can I do? I need to drive to get around since there’s no public transit available.

We’re sorry to hear about your accident—car crashes can be traumatizing. Everyone’s healing experience differs, but one thing’s for sure: it will take time.
After a car accident, we tend to focus more on the physical than the mental. Hopefully, your insurance was able to cover any medical expenses and car repairs. From there, taking care of your mental health can start with meeting with a professional to talk about your anxiety.
In the meantime, mindfulness exercises may help, including visualizing yourself making successful trips in your car. You could also limit yourself to short drives before building up to longer ones again, drive with a friend, or play soothing music while you drive.
Maybe your car insurance rates have changed since your accident or you’re looking to add more coverage that you didn’t have before.
