How do you put chains on a Honda CR-V?

What’s the best way to put chains on my Honda CR-V tires? With the weather getting cold again, I want to be prepared for the snow. I know you aren’t supposed to use chains without ice or snow, but I want to practice using them now so that I can put them on when I need to.

Snow chains are a fantastic way to improve your traction when driving over ice or snow. While the process of putting them on might sound easy, it takes a lot of practice and elbow grease.
Before you get started, you’ll need to find out whether your CR-V is a front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, or all-wheel drive. If it’s all-wheel drive, you probably won’t need chains at all! Otherwise, you should put the chains on the drive wheels—the back wheels for rear-wheel drive and the front wheels for front-wheel drive.
Once you’ve decided where you should put your chains follow these steps to put on your chains:
  • Park your vehicle, and straighten out your wheels.
  • Lay the chains just in front of your front tires or right behind your rear tires.
  • Make sure they’re aligned as closely as possible with your wheels.
  • Slowly drive your car onto the center of the chains.
  • Pull up both sides of the chains and connect them to form a cage around the wheel.
  • Drive your car a few feet to help the chains settle.
  • You may need to retighten the chains if there is too much slack.
Hopefully, these steps will help you put chains on your Honda CR-V. Unfortunately, the process isn’t easy. It may take you a few tries before you get it right, so try not to get too frustrated.
