How do you protect car windows from break-ins?

How do I prevent car break-ins? I'm moving to Detroit but I'm worried about the crime. More specifically, I'm concerned about my car windows getting smashed.

Options include:
  • Removing all valuables from your car
  • Installing an
    anti-theft device
  • Tinting your windows
  • Parking in a locked garage
