This is my first year having a car somewhere where it gets cold. I don’t want to waste time idling my car in the morning to get rid of frost from my windshield. How can I protect my windshield from frost?

Frost can definitely slow down your morning when you live in the cold. Luckily, there are several things you can do the night before to minimize this problem:
Cover your window with a cloth or cardboard cut to fit the window and stick it under the wipers
Spray your windshield with a solution of 3/4 vinegar and 1/4 water.
Spray your windshield with a solution of 2/3 rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) to 1/3 water
Rub the window with a cloth soaked in water and salt
Buy a windshield guard
You can always try these options the morning of:
Use a commercial de-icer or wiper fluid
Use an ice scraper and snow brush
Activate the car’s defroster
Be careful when applying any of the solutions listed above, as some may discolor car paint.
Just remember never to throw hot or warm water on your car in winter. The temperature difference will cause the windshield to crack.
If you want another way to protect your car this winter, make sure you have a roadside assistance plan in case of a roadside emergency.
