How do you program a Toyota garage door opener?
My new 4Runner came with a garage door opener that I didn’t think much about until my wife went to work with both of the garage remotes in her car. How do you program a Toyota garage door opener? I don’t want to be locked out again!

Relying on a shared remote never seems to work out great. The HomeLink system in your
Toyota
is an awesome way to make sure there are no surprises when you want to park at home. You can program a Toyota garage door opener by using your garage remote. The process will be different for fixed code and rolling code garage doors but is pretty simple either way.
The Toyota HomeLink garage door opener is a pretty cool feature, especially when you share a garage (and remote) with other drivers. Here is what you need to do to program yours:
- Press and hold the button that you want to program on your Toyota’s HomeLink system.
- While holding your garage door opener about 2 inches from your rearview mirror, press and hold the open button until a green light flashes on your HomeLink.
- Release both buttons. When the light stops flashing, your remote should be programmed, so check it out!
If that doesn’t work, you may have a garage door with a rolling code. If this is the case:
- Press the HomeLink button you’re programming twice.
- Then, in your garage, press the garage door motor’s “smart” or “learn” button.
- Within 30 seconds, press the HomeLink button you are programming three times.
