How do you program a 2006 Honda Accord key fob?

What do I need to do to program a new 2006 Honda Accord key fob? I’d rather not go to an auto shop, so I ordered a new keyfob to my home and I’d like to program it from here.

Auto shops can be stressful environments, so I don’t blame you for wanting to program your keyfob at home! The first thing you’ll need to do is follow these steps to prepare your key and your car for programming:
  • Get into your car and close all the doors.
  • Make sure that your doors are unlocked.
  • Put the key in the ignition and hold the remote in your hand.
Now, you’ll need to enter programming mode:
  • Turn the ignition to the ON position and wait for a quiet clicking sound from the vehicle.
  • Press and hold the lock button on the remote for about one second.
  • Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
  • Your car should lock then unlock the doors to indicate it’s entered programming mode.
Now, you can follow these steps to program your remote:
  • Within five seconds of the car entering programming mode, press the lock button on the remote.
  • Your car should lock and unlock the car again to show that your remote has been programmed.
  • If you have any additional remotes to program, repeat the process within five seconds of the last remote being programmed.
  • Once you’ve finished programming remotes, turn off the ignition and remove your key.
Congratulations! Your
keyless entry system
should be fully functional. Just to be sure, you should still test your keyfobs to make sure they work.
