I just bought a new car stereo and am paranoid about someone stealing it. How can I protect it?

Congratulations, and have fun jamming out on your drives!
Before you install anything else, the first thing you should do is contact your insurance company and add a customization endorsement. As long as you know the price of the stereo and have a copy of the receipt, you should be able to add custom
sound system coverage
to your policy.
To protect car audio equipment from being stolen, your best course of action is to install a
professional car security system
and onboard camera. These can be expensive, but they’re your best bet for added protection.
Otherwise, you can try tinting your windows to help hide what’s in the car. (Many states regulate how dark you can tint, however.) Also, park in well-lit areas to dissuade thieves and, of course, make sure your vehicle is always locked when you’re not around.
