What an exciting time for your son! To prep a car for paint, all you need to do is follow these steps:
  • Sand the painteither to the bare metal or the original primer
  • Dry sand using 180-grit to remove rust or surface damage
  • Now, using 320-grit, remove any scratches left from the 180-grit
How much you choose to sand is up to you, but sanding down to bare metal tends to yield better results. Remember before you start painting to
fix any dents
as well!
Remember that once you’ve gotten the new coat of paint on, your son will have to get a car insurance policy for his new ride. In order to easily get the best deal possible, check out the

Best of luck, and happy painting!
