How do you own an electric car?

This may be an odd question, but I’m just wondering what is the typical routine for electric car owners? I’m curious about buying one, but I’m wondering about the lifestyle difference when owning an electric car?

This isn’t an odd question at all! Driving an EV can be a bit of a lifestyle change, so it’s good to have a rundown of the typical “day in the life”. Owning an electric car is essentially not drastically different from a non-electric one, but there are a few key differences.
  • 1. Skip the gas station and charge instead. The biggest difference when driving an electric vehicle, is realizing that all the gas stations (and their sky-high prices may I add) don’t apply to you. This can be freeing and frustrating as your fuel costs will be cheaper, but, depending on the infrastructure of your region, there may not be as many stations to refuel.
  • Plugin your phone, laptop, and… car? Another big shift is the concept of plugging in your car and remembering to charge it. Nothing is worse than finding out your phone was unplugged the whole night. Also, don’t stress over this, most vehicles will give you a signal if it’s charging or not.
  • No oil changes! If you’ve driven past the mechanic and glanced at the note for the next appointment on your windshield, then the idea of no oil changes probably seems appealing. EVs have about 1,980 fewer parts than a traditional vehicle, which means way fewer visits to the shop. EVs sometimes may need tuning up or fixing, but it’s usually not periodical.
