How do you open the gas tank on a Toyota Avalon from 2018?

I just purchased a new(er) Avalon and I’m super happy with it! It’s my first time filling it up, though, and I’m having trouble finding the fuel release button. How do you open the gas tank on a Toyota Avalon from 2018?

Happy to hear you’re enjoying your new(er) Avalon!
The reason you’re struggling to find a fuel release button is that there actually isn’t one. To open the gas tank on a 2018 Toyota Avalon, all you have to do is press firmly on the center of the fuel door until you hear a click. It will automatically pop open, and then you just need to twist off the gas cap to fill up your tank.
Since you’re still learning the ins and outs of your new Avalon, here are a few more tips to help you out at the pump:
  • If your fuel door won’t open—there is a lever in your trunk on the left side wall under the cover; pulling on this will unlock your fuel door and allow you to press it open
  • Use regular unleaded gasoline—87 octane should do it
  • Fuel tank capacity is 17 gallons—your multi-information display behind your steering wheel will actually tell you the distance in miles to empty under “trip information”
And that’s all there is to it! Remember, if you ever run into any more confusion with your Avalon, you can always consult your owner’s manual for answers. Other information, like your Avalon’s tire pressure, is also displayed on the plaque in your driver’s door jamb.
