How do you open the gas tank on a Jeep Cherokee 2022?

I recently got a new Jeep Cherokee from 2022 after driving a 2012 model for years. I love my new car, but I can’t figure out where the fuel door release lever is. What am I missing?

To open the gas tank on a 2022 Jeep Cherokee, simply unlock your car, then press inward on the fuel door. This should trigger a spring mechanism that causes your vehicle’s gas tank door to pop open and the lid to your gas tank to be exposed.

If you don’t unlock your car, however, the fuel door will remain locked. This is to prevent thieves siphoning gas from your car or people otherwise tampering with your gas tank while you’re not looking.

This type of fuel tank is pretty standard on newer vehicles, but is certainly a little counterintuitive for those who are used to older cars!
