How do you open the gas tank on a Ford Escape?

I’m borrowing a friend’s car while mine is in the shop, and I want to gas it up before I hand it back over. But her car is different from mine, and I can’t figure out how to open the dang gas tank! How do you open the gas tank on a Ford Escape?

How to open the gas tank on a
Ford Escape
 depends on your vehicle’s age. In some Ford Escape models—such as the 2022 plug-in hybrid version—you may have to press an interior button on your vehicle’s instrument panel to open the gas tank. Newer models, however, have been redesigned so that pressing down on the fuel-filler door or pulling it open with your fingers is all it takes.
Your Ford’s owner’s manual should include details on your model year’s gas tank, including its size and how to open it. But if you’re still having trouble getting the gas tank to open, it could be an issue with the fuel-filler door’s internal latching mechanism, such as a faulty spring or stuck lever.
On the other hand, it could also be a malfunction with the easy fuel capless system, which has commonly been reported among drivers of the 2021 Escape. If that’s the case, you may have to bring your Escape to a dealership or auto shop for further assistance.
