How do you open the gas tank on a BMW 530i?
I recently bought a BMW 530i and I’ve run into a really weird and unexpected problem: I can’t figure out how to open the gas tank. Is there some kind of trick that I’m missing?

To open the gas tank on a
BMW 530i
, all you need to do is press inward on the fuel door. Doing this should cause the fuel door to pop open and reveal the gas cap. This is pretty different from the standard fuel lever option, so it’s totally understandable that you were confused!Some drivers worry that this exposes their gas tank to thieves and/or saboteurs, but this feature only works while the car is unlocked. If you try to open your gas tank this way without first unlocking your vehicle, it will remain closed and locked just like your regular car doors.
If you unlock your car and press on the fuel tank door to no avail, there may be an issue with the locking mechanism on your door. In these cases, it’s best to check with your mechanic to make sure that your vehicle isn’t experiencing electrical issues.
