How do you open the gas tank on a 2020 Nissan Sentra?
My wife and I bought our daughter a 2020 Nissan Sentra for her 21st birthday, and we need to fill up the tank but can’t find a lever inside. How do you open the fuel tank door?

What a nice gift! To open the gas tank on a 2020
Nissan Sentra
, locate the fuel door release latch on the driver’s side to the left of the steering wheel, under the dash. Pull the latch toward you, and you’ll hear the fuel door lock release and pop open. Exit the vehicle and open the fuel door, then turn the gas cap counterclockwise to open it. Once you’ve fueled your car, replace the gas cap by turning it clockwise until you hear a click, and then close the gas tank door until secure. If you’re unsure which side of the car your gas tank is on, here’s a quick tip to help you: look on your dashboard where the fuel light is, and you’ll find a small arrow above the icon indicating which side of the vehicle the fuel door is on!
Once you’ve finished filling up your car, wait a few seconds before removing the nozzle. Spilling fuel on the exterior of your vehicle can damage the paint, so be sure to clean it as soon as possible if you spill anything. Also, be careful not to overfill the tank by more than three clicks. Putting too much fuel in your tank can lead to the following:
- Vehicle performance issues (engine stalling and damage to the fuel system)
- Fuel spills
- Fuel fire
