How do you open the gas tank on a 2018 Jeep Cherokee?

two ways. The first is by using the fuel door release button found in the map holder area under the driver’s side door armrest. The button is hidden out of direct sight, so you have to go searching for it.The other way to open the gas tank on a 2018 Jeep Cherokee is by using the emergency release strap found in the trim on the right side of your Jeep’s cargo area. This should be used only for emergencies, as the name suggests. But, if the first method doesn’t work, this should help you open the door to be able to fuel up.
Behind every good fuel filler door is a gas cap. You’ll need to take that off to refuel your Jeep, and be sure to tighten it properly when you replace it. If the gas cap is too loose, you’ll receive a Malfunction Indicator Light on your dash display. Tightening the gas cap usually solves this issue, but if the light doesn’t go away, you may want to schedule an appointment with a qualified Jeep technician to make sure that it’s not an indication of a bigger problem.
