How do you open the gas tank on a 2017 Kia Soul?

I’m 16 and my parents got me a used Kia Soul yesterday. They’re both at work right now and I need to get gas after school, but I can’t figure out how to get the little door open. How do you open the gas tank on a 2017 Kia Soul?

Congrats on getting your first-ever car! We know it’s probably equal parts exciting and a bit scary—we have some tips for overcoming your driving anxiety you might want to read—and you’ll always be learning new things about cars and driving, too. It comes with the territory!
Okay, let’s get that gas cap open in your 2017 Kia Soul.
Look on the floor to the left of the driver’s seat for a small tab with a gas symbol on it. It might help to get out of the car and spot it visually. Do you see it? Great! Just tug that upward and the gas cap will pop open. The gas cap is on the driver’s side (the left side) of the car.
You’ll find that some cars use these pull-up tabs like your Kia Soul, while others require you to gently tap the gas cap inward to pop them open. Some cars have push buttons on the dashboard, central console, or down on the floor. Some older cars even have a hidden gas cap behind the rear license plate, which you flip down.
Here’s another quick tip for you. Looking at your
fuel gauge on your dashboard
, do you see a little arrow next to the fuel symbol? That arrow points to the side of your car where your gas cap is located. This is handy to know in any car you’re driving—it saves you from having to get out and check every time you’re in a rental car!
