How do you open the gas tank on a 2016 Toyota Sienna?

I just bought a used Sienna and am already in love with it! I didn’t think to ask this at the dealership, but I can’t figure out the gas tank door, and I do not see a button to open it. How do you open the gas tank on a 2016 Toyota Sienna?

Congrats on the new vehicle—it’s great you’re enjoying it! To open the gas tank on a 2016
Toyota Sienna
, you’ll want to look for a lever rather than a button, which can be difficult to find since it tends to blend in with the rest of the dash.
Here’s how to open the gas tank on a 2016
Toyota
Sienna:
  • Locate the fuel door release lever—it’s pretty easy to miss! You’ll find it to the left of your steering wheel, just above your emergency brake. The lever will have a fuel icon—pull it toward you to release the fuel door.
  • Your fuel door should have popped open after pulling the lever. Now you can unscrew your gas tank gap and place it inside the fuel door holder while you fill up.
  • Once you’ve finished refueling, screw the gas tank cap back on until you hear a click and press the fuel door closed until it latches.
If your fuel filler door won’t budge after pulling the fuel door release lever, it may be stuck shut. In the cargo area, behind a panel on the side of the Sienna that the fuel door is on, you should find another manual fuel door release lever.
If you can’t get it open yourself, it might be worth enlisting a mechanic’s help to avoid damaging the door.
