How do you open the gas tank on a 2016 Jeep Cherokee?

My car is in the shop, and a friend is letting me borrow their old Jeep Cherokee. I’m at the gas station and can’t figure out how to open the tank. What do I have to do to open the gas tank on a 2016 Jeep Cherokee?

It’s nice that your friend is lending you their Jeep! Fortunately, it’s very easy to open the gas tank. Here’s what you need to do.
  1. Locate the fuel filler door release switch on the driver’s side door trim (it’s a circular button with the image of a gas pump).
  2. Push the button, so the fuel filler door pops open a little.
  3. Unscrew the gas cap and refuel the car.
In cold conditions, ice can freeze over the fuel filler door, which makes it tricky to pop open. If this is the case,** lightly push on the fuel door to break the ice**. Then, press the release button on the inside of the Jeep. It should open with no problem!
