There actually isn’t a fuel release button for you to find!
To open the gas tank on a 2014 Toyota Avalon, simply unlock your car, walk over to the fuel door, and press the center of its rear edge until it clicks. The door will then open slightly toward you, leaving you free to unscrew the gas cap and fill up your tank.
Here are a few more pointers to help you navigate your first fuel-pumping experience in your new Avalon:
Use regular unleaded 87 octane fuel—you can always go higher if you want, just note that the engine is not designed to benefit from premium fuel
Its fuel tank capacity is 17 gallons—if you’re ever worried about how much is left in the tank, you can always check the approximate miles to empty on your multi-information display behind the steering wheel (note that this is based on the vehicle’s average fuel consumption, though, not sensors in the fuel tank)
There’s a backup fuel release lever in your trunk—if your fuel door ever gets stuck, you can release it with a lever on the left side wall of your trunk under the cloth cover
And there you have it! If you encounter any more confusion maintaining your new 2014 Toyota Avalon, remember that your owner’s manual is one of the best resources out there. You can also consult the label in your driver door jamb for other useful information for your Avalon, like its VIN, paint codes, and tire inflation pressure.
