How do you open the gas tank on a 2014 Subaru Outback?

My wife is about ready to give birth to our first kid, so she’s on maternity leave. In the meantime, I’m the errand runner for the house. Since her Outback gets better gas mileage, I’m using it to run the errands—the only problem is that I have no idea how to fill the tank! What do I do to open the tank on a 2014 Outback?

Good on you for picking up some of the slack while your wife is on maternity leave! To open the gas tank on a 2014 Subaru Outback, follow these steps:
  1. Turn off the engine of the Outback.
  2. Look on the driver’s side floorboard. You should see a small lever with a gas pump icon on it.
  3. Pull up on this lever to release the fuel filler door.
  4. Go around to the rear passenger side of the vehicle.
  5. Open the fuel filler door, unscrew the gas cap, and you’re ready to refuel!
Saving money on gas
can go a long way to helping out with parenting costs or the cost of education in the future—even if you have to fill the car with premium. Good luck with the kid!
