I bought a used Fusion yesterday and am having trouble trying to open the fuel filler door to access the tank. How do you open the gas tank on a 2014 Ford Fusion?

Excellent question! Opening the gas tank on a 2014 Ford Fusion is incredibly simple. All you have to do is put your vehicle in Park, switch the ignition off, exit the vehicle, and press in on the rear center edge of the fuel filler door.
Seeing as the fuel filler door’s hinges are spring-loaded, it will automatically spring open part-way when you press it. Pull the door open the rest of the way and you should see the fuel filler pipe.
Unlike some older Ford Fusions, the 2014 Ford Fusion does not have a gas cap to remove—rather, it uses a capless refueling system sealed by a fuel valve. This means that all you have to do to refuel is insert the fuel nozzle into the fuel pipe and let it fill the tank.
The 2014 Ford Fusion has a fuel tank capacity of approximately 16.5 gallons—which is above average for a vehicle its size—so it may take longer to refuel than you are used to. Make sure you are using regular unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 to avoid damaging your vehicle.
If your Fusion is equipped with the 1.6L or 2.0L EcoBoost® engine, it is recommended you use premium fuel for improved performance when subjecting your vehicle to severe duty usage (e.g. towing).
Once the tank is full, remove the fuel nozzle and close the fuel filler door, making sure that it latches properly.
