How do you open the gas tank on a 2014 Ford Escape?

I was driving a newer Ford Escape until recently—I traded it in so I could have a lower car payment. There must have been a change in the gas tank setup, because I cannot get this fuel door to open! How do you open the gas tank on a 2014 Ford Escape?

You’d be correct in that
Ford
has made various changes to how to open the Escape’s fuel filler door over the years.
If you’re wondering how to open the gas tank on a 2014
Ford Escape
, you’ll likely just need to pull open the fuel filler door by pulling on the raised outer edge of the door. From there, you’d simply unscrew the fuel filler gap and insert the gas nozzle to start refueling.
On a 2020 or newer Escape, you’d instead press in on the door to make it pop open, so if that’s the model you had previously, it would be easy to see why that might have been a source of confusion.
Then, some vehicles between these model years also have a fuel door release button to the left of the steering wheel that you need to press to unlock the door.
If you’re not having luck with any of these methods, it’s possible your fuel filler door could be stuck shut for some reason. If you can’t get it to open yourself, you may want to visit your dealership or an auto shop to get to the root of the problem without causing any further damage.
Once you get that fuel filler door open, be sure to verify your 2014 Ford Escape’s full tank is paired with the right
