To open the gas tank on a 2012
Ford Focus
, you must press down on the fuel-filler door. Applying a slight amount of pressure to the fuel-filler door of your Focus should be all it takes for it to spring open, allowing you to access the gas tank and refuel.
If pressing on the fuel-filler door doesn’t work, you could face an underlying issue, such as a faulty spring or stuck latch preventing the gas tank from opening. In that case, you may need to bring your Focus to an auto shop or Ford dealer for further assistance.
If you’re having trouble spotting the fuel-filler door on your 2012 Ford Focus, you’re not alone—the gas tank is well-camouflaged. Look to the rear passenger side of your vehicle, just below the right-hand side of your rear tail light. You should be able to notice the outline of a trapezoid-shaped door, which is your point of access to the gas tank.
The 2012 Ford Focus features a 12.4-gallon gas tank and averages 28 city/38 highway miles per gallon.
