How do you open the gas tank on a 2004 BMW 325i? I just bought this car, but I never thought to ask about the gas tank since it seemed like it would be pretty simple to open.

If you’re used to other fuel doors, it’s possible to open the 2004 BMW 325i gas tank might feel deceptively challenging! Luckily, it’s pretty simple once you know what to do.
When you’re ready to fill up your tank, here’s how to open the gas tank on your BMW:
  • Unlock the vehicle, which should also unlock the fuel door
  • At the fuel filler door, press in on the outer edge of the door, and it should release.
  • Once the door is open, unscrew the fuel filler cap. The inside of the fuel door has a bracket where you can place the cap while you’re refueling.
  • After filling up the tank, replace the cap and press in on the door until it’s securely latched.
If you’re having trouble getting the fuel door to open on its own, there’s a manual release in the trunk area. You’ll find it behind a panel near where the fuel filler door would be.
Remove the panel, pull on the knob with the fuel pump symbol, and the fuel filler door should release.
If you’re still having trouble with the fuel door, it’s possible there might be a problem with the locking mechanism that’s keeping it stuck shut. If you can’t gently maneuver it open yourself, you might want to enlist the help of a trusted mechanic so you don’t risk damaging the door.
