How do you open the gas tank on a 2003 Ford Escape?

Just a few days ago, I made the decision to purchase a 2003 Ford Escape with relatively low mileage as my daughter’s first car. Problem is, neither of us can figure out how to open the gas tank! Do you know how to open the gas tank on a 2003 Ford Escape?

Some older Ford models, like the 2003
Ford Escape
use a fuel door lever to keep the fuel door locked unless pulled from inside the car to stop would-be thieves from siphoning your precious fuel. While these levers can be confusing, they’re easy to operate once you know how.
Here’s how to open the 2003 Ford Escape gas tank in a few simple steps:
  • Step one: Look to the left side of the driver’s seat near the floor of your 2003 Escape, where you’ll find the fuel door lever.
  • Step two: Pull the lever towards the roof of the car to release the fuel door.
  • Step three: Go to the left side of your Escape, near the rear bumper, to pull the fuel door open and unscrew the cap beneath.
  • Step four: Once you’re ready to close the fuel door, simply push the door back into place until you hear it latch, meaning it’s been locked again.
And that’s all there is to it! Avoid letting your
fuel warning light turn on
before gassing up, and consider purchasing
towing and labor coverage
in case you ever do run out of fuel while driving and need fuel delivered to you.
