This can make fueling up a bit confusing, but once you know where the lever is, opening the gas tank on a 2002 Escape is simple. Here’s how to do it: - Step one: Locate the fuel door lever on the left side of the driver’s seat near the floor
- Step two: Pull the lever upwards to release the fuel door lock
- Step three: Walk to the left side of the vehicle near the rear bumper, where you’ll find the fuel door. Pull the door open and unscrew the gas cap underneath
- Step four: After fueling up, close the fuel door firmly until you hear it latch
