How do you open the gas tank on a 2001 Ford Escape?

My brother lent me his 2001 Ford Escape for the week while my car is in the repair shop. I’m enjoying driving the Escape, but I have no idea how to open the gas tank and I’ll need to fill up soon. Do you know how to open the gas tank on a 2001 Ford Escape?

It’s very nice of your brother to lend you his car for the week! Thankfully, opening the gas tank on a 2001
Ford Escape
is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Here’s how to open the gas tank for a 2001 Escape in a few simple steps:
  • Step one: Locate the fuel door release lever. The lever is on the floor near the driver’s side door.
  • Step two: Pull the fuel door release lever to unlock the fuel door and allow you to open it.
  • Step three: Open the fuel door by pulling on the handle. The fuel door is located on the left side of the vehicle near the rear bumper.
  • Step four: Unscrew the gas cap underneath the fuel door to fuel up. When you finish fueling up, remove the fuel nozzle and close the fuel door by pushing it firmly until it latches.
And that’s all there is to it! It’s a good idea to fill up on gas before your fuel gauge reaches “E” to avoid any roadside trouble. Whatever you don’t, don’t
put the wrong fuel in the car
! Check the
Ford
owner’s manual to determine the exact fuel type.
