How do you open a Tesla key fob?

I’ve been having issues with my key fob lately. My Tesla Model S recently alerted me that I need to change my key battery. What’s the best way to open a Tesla key fob to change a battery?

While key fob batteries typically last years, they all need replacing at some point. You can replace the battery in your
Tesla’s
key fob by doing the following:
  • Place the key fob upside down on a soft service.
  • Using a coin or a flat-head screwdriver, gently press in to release the cover.
  • Remove the battery and replace it with a new CR2032 battery. Tesla recommends using Panasonic batteries.
Although Tesla typically recommends you make an appointment with their service center or mobile service for maintenance, changing the battery is something they include in their DIY guide.
Now that you’ve taken care of your Tesla’s key fob, why not spend an extra minute ensuring your car has the best car insurance by using the number-one-rated car insurance app,
