How do you open a Tesla door?

I’m currently renting a Tesla. It didn’t come with any instructions and I have no idea how to open the door! How do Tesla doors open?

You have a couple of options to open a
  • Option 1: Use the key fob. If the owner gave you a key fob, you can either approach the car or press the top of the fob once. Either of these options should unlock and lock it.
  • Option 2: Use the key card. If the owner supplied you with a key card, put the key card up to the driver’s door side pillar. Doing so should work to lock and unlock the car.
Different Tesla models also come with different types of door handles:
  • Model S
    : Though at first, you can’t see the handle, the Model S mid-size sedan senses when its driver approaches the vehicle. The door handle on a Model S will pop out with a light touch and will automatically retract if no one enters the car.
  • Model 3
    Model Y
    : The handles on the Model 3 and Model Y are on a pivot. To get inside, press one side of the door handle with your thumb and watch the other side elevate for an easy grip.
  • Model X
    : The door handles on a model X are also flush and just need to be pushed for the door to open. The Model X is currently the only Tesla that has automatic opening and closing doors featured on its premium package.
If you’re inside the Tesla, you can press the button located on the top of the door handle and push the door open.
