How do you open a Mazda CX 9 key fob?

I went to the beach this past weekend and dropped my key fob in the sand. Now, every time I pick it up, I can feel sand pouring out of it and it’s driving me nuts! I really need to clean out the inside—can you tell me how to open a Mazda CX 9 key fob?

Sand between your toes is one of the more relaxing feelings—but sand between your key fob? Not so much. Here’s how to open a
Mazda CX 9
key fob:
  • Look for the bottom metal part of your key fob, with the metal bar where you can attach key rings. There, you’ll find a small black release switch.
  • Using your finger or a small flathead screwdriver, slide the switch over to the right.
  • While you are doing that, take your finger or thumb and slide the plastic back of your key fob to the left.
And that should do it! Hopefully you’re able to get all of the sand out and not have to deal with those pesky grains getting everywhere anymore!
Whether you take your car to the beach, off-road, or just to the drive through and back, you should protect it with a great
