How do you open a gas tank door on a 2009 Volkswagen Passat?

I’m driving my friend’s car and want to fill it up before I give it back, but I can’t seem to figure out how to open the gas tank door on the 2009 Passat.

Opening the gas tank on a 2009 Volkswagen Passat is simple—just firmly press the small square door in the lower right corner. The door should depress and pop open.
Now all you have to do is unscrew the gas cap and put the fuel pump’s nozzle into the tank. When finished, replace the gas cap and close the door to seal it.
