How do you open a BMW key battery compartment?

I drive an old BMW that still uses a manual key, but the lock and unlock buttons on the handle have stopped working. I think it just needs a new battery, but how can I open my BMW key battery compartment?

I’m sorry the lock and unlock buttons on your key have stopped working, but there is no way to open your BMW key battery compartment safely at home.
You can open some of the newer key fobs at home to replace the battery, but old BMW keys are designed to be recharged through the ignition. However, sometimes the battery is too old to be recharged, so you should order a new key through a BMW dealership. If you tell them the model of your vehicle and that you have a diamond key, they should know exactly what to order.
A replacement diamond key is usually $165 to $210 which certainly isn’t cheap. However, if you want to recoup some of the cost, you should use the Jerry app to save on your car insurance.
Once you download Jerry, answer a handful of questions that will take you roughly 45 seconds to complete and you’ll immediately get car insurance quotes for coverage similar to your current plan. Jerry customers save an average of $879 a year.
