How do you open a BMW key battery compartment?

I drive an old BMW that still uses a manual key, but the lock and unlock buttons on the handle have stopped working. I think it just needs a new battery, but how can I open my BMW key battery compartment?

You can open some of the newer key fobs at home to replace the battery, but old BMW keys are designed to be recharged through the ignition. However, sometimes the battery is too old to be recharged, so you should order a new key through a BMW dealership. If you tell them the model of your vehicle and that you have a diamond key, they should know exactly what to order.
