To measure shocks on a vehicle, you’ll need both compressed and extended measurements for your shocks. Getting your extended measurements will involve raising your vehicle, which can be dangerous, so measuring shocks are best left to those with experience.
With your shocks on or off the vehicle, you’ll essentially want to get the fully-extended and fully-collapsed lengths of your shock absorbers. If your shocks have a part number, you might also be able to reference that to see what its measurements are.
The following are the measuring points for shocks:
  • Eyering’s center to stud shoulder
  • Eyering’s center to other eyering’s center
  • Stud shoulder to other stud shoulders
If you’re not sure whether you’ve measured correctly, you can always ask a mechanic to double-check your work.
