How do you make wheels for a car cake?

My son is obsessed with race cars. His fifth birthday is coming up next week, and we want to surprise him with a car cake, but I’m not sure how to make the tires. What’s the best way to add wheels to a car cake? Thanks!

That’s an awesome idea! We’re sure your son will be thrilled to see the cake. Though there are a million different ways to make wheels for a car cake, we’ll walk you through one of our favorites.
Here’s what to do:
  • Gather Rice Krispie Treats, modeling chocolate, and a few different colors of fondant
  • Press the Rice Krispies into a muffin tin and cut out a little hole in the center of the “tire”
  • Slice strips of modeling chocolate (or fondant!) into the shapes of tire treads
  • Place the treads onto the Rice Krispie wheel, and cover the whole thing in black fondant
  • Add a small circle of gray fondant in the middle of the wheel (where you made the hole)
Voila! You should have some killer edible car tires. If you want to take things to the next level, add some sprinkles or luster dust (glitter you can eat) for that new tire sheen.
