How do you make car seat covers?
Is there an easy way to make car seat covers? My kids keep messing up my back seats. I can't keep buying new seat covers—the costs stack up! I’m hoping I can make some on my own with a cheap DIY method.

Car seats can get messy, especially when there are kids involved! Luckily, you can follow these steps to make your own car seat covers:
- Start by using a plastic sheet to make a pattern of your seat. Lay it over the seat and mark any important curves or bends.
- Cut the pattern out of the plastic.
- Purchase fabric your fabric. Since you have kids, consider getting a waterproof fabric or something similar to prevent spills from soaking into the seat underneath.
- Use the plastic pieces as a stencil and cut out fabric pieces with an extra half-inch of space around the sides.
- Sew all the fabric pieces together and attach elastic to the sides to help it cling to the seat and prevent sliding.
- Put the cover over your car seats to make sure it fits.
- If it doesn’t fit, make adjustments as needed.
If it fits, congratulations—you just made a car seat cover!
